Greetings, Fellow Motorcyclists!

Oh, the beauty of fall! I'm sure you will agree, this fall has been spectacular in both the temperatures and the color. I hope you have had time to get out and ENJOY it!

Beautiful Fall Color in NC

Wheels Through Time

Recently, JoAnna and I took advantage of the excellent fall weather and spent a day in Maggie Valley, N. C. Fall colors were beginning to peak in the higher altitudes in the North Carolina mountains that weekend and temperatures were in the mid 70's. While there, we made our 3rd visit to the Wheels Through Time museum. It is so very interesting, especially if you are a motorcycle enthusiast. Plan on going this fall if you can. Visit their website for more information.

Concerning E15 - Call to Action!

Congressman James Sensenbrenner (R-WI) has introduced HR 3199, a bill that would require the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) to seek independent scientific analysis on the affects of 15-percent ethanol blend gasoline.

The bill would not overturn the option for ethanol to continue to be sold, it simply asks for more study on the use of an E15 blend; something the Motorcycle Riders Foundation (MRF) has been asking for as well.
"The EPA's decision to allow E15 into the marketplace will impact every American who owns a car, lawnmower, or boat. Automakers insist that using E15 will void warranties, lower fuel efficiency, and cause premature engine failure. In off-road engines, the effects can even be dangerous for users," Sensenbrenner said.
"There are serious concerns that the EPA used only one Department of Energy test and rushed E15's introduction into the marketplace. This test was limited in scope and ignored a plethora of evidence - albeit inconvenient evidence for the EPA - that shows E15 gasoline has a negative effect on engines."

Sensenbrenner is very serious about this issue. He conducted his own study by questioning 14 automakers about the effect of an E15 blend on their products. The unanimous consent was grim. Everybody agreed that E15 would void warranties, damage engines and lower fuel efficiency.

AMS Suggestion based on the above: Don't put this stuff into your automobile or motorcycle gas tank!

True Grits 50cc Rally

Have you heard the saying, "There's no replacement for displacement."? Well, it is so true-and sometimes that refers to the FUN of *small* displacement. One event JoAnna and I enjoy each year is the 50cc True Grits Fun Run. It will be held October 29th starting at the Suches Community Center at 1:30--but come early to check it all out. This event is great fun to watch (imagine large men in costume riding a 50cc motorcycle or scooter 100 miles in the north Georgia foothills! :-). And if you have a 50cc-or can borrow one-come join the fun! Or just drive/ride up and watch!!

Home Defense

Remember that most home defense situations and real gunfights take place at very short range - by and large it will occur across the room and there may not be a lot of time to react. Experts in self defense believe that pistol marksmanship in competition may be irrelevant. Far more important is attitude, the state of mind necessary to do what is needful when the time arises. You may be the best shot but will be helpless if you won't want to shoot. We can help you learn to shoot more easily and rapidly but it is up to you to develop the attitude of survival. Call Ken (770 573 9902) for more information on this subject.

Due to the increased handgun/home defense class interest, the cost will be reduced to $100.00 per customer if you sign-up with a friend to the class. Go to for more information and application.

Back to Basics—Body Positioning

Accelerating shifts weight rearward and can cause control problems under certain conditions. For example, accelerating hard over a rise can lighten the front wheel and cause an unwanted wheelie that can lead to a nasty tank-slapper if the front wheel is out of line with the motorcycle on landing.
To minimize the likelihood of a too-light front wheel when cresting a rise, move your head and chest over the gas tank. Use your feet and legs to get into this forward position. If you use your arms to pull yourself forward, you could actually increase the probability of unnecessarily making the front wheel too light.

To better understand correct body positioning, take a dual sport class. Riding on the gravel/dirt will allow you to better understand how we can assist the motorcycle suspension work in our favor……..

Choosing Your Handgun

Consider your hand size, as well as your wrist and hand strength. How skilled are you at shooting?? Have you had sufficient training and practice to determine which hand gun fits best and doesn't present excessive recoil for you. Keep in mind that pocket/subcompact handguns (especially revolvers) are more difficult to shoot. Too many new owners buy the small revolvers, shoot them and find that it is too difficult. As a result, the owner won't practice with the handgun anymore-or at least not often enough to become proficient.

Interestingly, good gunsmiths will modify more expensive handguns per your request but not necessarily the cheaper ones….. You may want a lighter trigger for example… Finding a good gunsmith is important.

Consider fit and trigger reach. Does it also fit your body size and type for those considering concealed carry?

Most importantly the handgun must be RELIABLE!!! Gun tests (just like motorcycle tests) are going on all the time…………

If you have questions or want to discuss any of this in more detail, call Ken/JoAnna at 770 573 9902.

Peach Pass

If you ever ride your motorcycle through Atlanta you need to read this, it will save you some money. Even if there is only a slight chance, it's worth the 10 min to go through this process. Pass this on to everyone you know who rides.

As most of you know motorcycles are allowed to use the "HOV" Lanes here in Georgia without issues. However, the new "HOT" Lanes (most of the current HOV Lanes are being converted to HOT Lanes) will require a "PeachPass" to use the Lane (this cost money, $20.00 min, plus the cost of the transponder).

What do you need to do? To use the new "HOT" Lanes will require that you register your motorcycle with the "PeachPass" people and there is NO CHARGE for this. All you will need is your motorcycle license tag and drivers license numbers. You CANNOT NOT USE THE WEB to register but must call the following number: (855) PCH-PASS (724-7277). If you do use the WEB, then you will end up paying for the privilege to use the "HOT" Lanes.

This information is from ABATE. If you're not a member and you ride, you need to join, they just saved you $20 and the cost of your first violation!
