Greetings, Fellow Motorcyclists!

Spring has sprung and summer is just around the corner.

JoAnna and I will be joining our annual "Friends of Pete" dual sport weekend later this month. We are looking forward to some excellent riding in N. Georgia, Northern Alabama, and Tennessee—as well as spending quality time with good friends.

June will see us attending the MSTA STAR national rally in Avon Colorado. Colorado is one of our favorite riding locations and we look forward to seeing Leadville, Ouray, Durango, Telluride and places in between again. We might also get back on the Million Dollar Highway!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Class Demographic Changes

Our gun classes have seen the group dynamics changing over the past few years. Much like motorcycle class attendance, our handgun classes have included many more women, young couples, and younger men and women. The number of women coming to the motorcycle/gun class alone is the most dramatic change we have seen. And that's good news!! It's refreshing to see women realizing they can do this alone (or are they realizing they should do this when they are alone!).

Barber Motorsports Park

Come see America's premier motorcycle racing series at the beautiful Barber Motorsports Park June 22 - 24! The Triumph Superbike Classic will include 7 races in 3 days of adrenaline-pumping, kneepad-scraping, two-wheel action that any sports enthusiast will enjoy!

While at the Barber Motorsports Park, don't forget to visit the museum… Go to for more information.

The 2012 Triumph Superbike Classic is scheduled for June 22 - 24 at Barber Motorsports Park, marking the Series' 10th visit to the Alabama-based park. The weekend will feature the AMA Pro National Guard SuperBike, AMA Pro Daytona SportBike, AMA Pro SuperSport and AMA Pro Vance & Hines XR1200 series. In addition, the weekend will include fan walks on pit lane, autograph sessions, demo rides and much more!

Gun marketing (or any marketing) is all about getting you to buy something because you think you need it. You won't shoot any better by adding the latest and coolest accessories to your pistol. You would be better served spending your money on high-quality training and practice ammunition. Seek out knowledgeable shooters and trainers, and follow their advice. Remember, these are PARISHABLE SKILLS and need to be practiced regularly.

Every expert knows the reliability of a revolver. A minimum of 38 caliber with be sufficient as the gun carried daily and/or for home defense. This gives them, for most revolvers, 5 or more rounds that keep on working and for which no failure drill practice is needed. If it doesn't go bang when the trigger is pulled, no tap and rack is necessary. Just pull the trigger again. This is an easy thing to do under stress. So much so that even people who carry pistols do it. However, you can pull that trigger on a pistol all day if you have a failure to eject or failure to feed and it won't go bang until the malfunction is cleared. For students who are not in that expert class, I recommend the .38 Special in any barrel length LONGER THAN A SNUB NOSE.

Helmets and ATGATT (All the Gear, All the Time)

We recently ran across a couple of interesting web articles on motorcycling that will have you thinking twice about a few things—at least—we hope so!

This Is Your Brain on a Motorcycle

Posted February 15, 2012 by Todd Halterman

Riding a motorcycle every day might actually keep your brain functioning at peak condition, or so says a study conducted by the University of Tokyo. The study demonstrated that riders between the age of 40 and 50 were shown to improve their levels of cognitive functioning, compared to a control group, after riding their motorcycles daily to their workplace for a mere two months. Those Stupid Squids

There’s a term amongst motorcyclists that describes a rider who is either extremely wet behind the ears, rides beyond his/her skill level, wears little to no gear, or is extremely reckless by nature. We call these riders “squids” and the origin is actually somewhat of a controversial subject. Finish Reading

When and How Should I tell My Children We Own Firearms??

We all keep secrets but the presence of firearms in the home probably shouldn't be among the secrets we keep from our children. It's my firm belief that firearms safety education should start very young, as early as the toddler years. There are several important reasons for this. First, the earlier you begin teaching your children how to be safe around guns, the more "normal" your kids will find firearms ownership. "Normal", in this context, translates to "unremarkable" - which means the kids are less likely to brag about your firearms ownership to their friends or strangers or consider it a toy.

Remember, as young as 2 years of age, the child should be taught these BASICS: If you see a gun:

We offer Home Defense and Firearm Safety classes to children--starting at age 9 (age limit is really based on parents' discretion)…Target shooting is a sport of concentration and self control. These are good things for a child to be learning. Call us for more information.

AS 202 Adventure Sport Riding for the Street Ride

Adventure Sport Riding for the Street Rider is geared for the intermediate, or advanced street riders who want the confidence to continue when the paved road turns to gravel or single track trail. One of the fastest growing forms of motorcycling today, adventure sport (also dual sport) riding features street-legal off-road motorcycles that can be operated on pavement, dirt roads, and trails.

Our Course 202 teaches off-road riding skills and provides riders with experience handling a motorcycle in low-traction conditions. The basic motorcycle skills of straight line riding, shifting, turning, and braking are presented with an emphasis on lower body control, body positioning, and weight distribution. Intermediate skills are presented and practiced as appropriate to the rider's skill level. These skills will be practiced on a careful selection of fire service linked together by paved and gravel back roads. A dual sport motorcycle will be provided.

If you are new to this segment of motorcycling, the tri-state area of North Georgia, Eastern Tennessee, and Western North Carolina offers some of the best adventure sport riding in the country. Whether you plan to jump in with both feet or just want to improve your riding skills for occasional forays onto dirt and gravel roads, our dual sport course will give you the confidence to take your riding to the next level. Come ride with JoAnna and Ken on the ROADS LESS TRAVELED!!!

Xocai: Healthy Chocolate Update

Younger Today than Yesterday!

Did you know 85% of all chronic diseases are due to free radical damage? Antioxidants neutralize free radicals which destroy tissue—one cell at a time. Do you know the highest rated antioxidant by the FDA is unprocessed chocolate? Would you like to be younger today than yesterday?

In this video Dr. Gordon Pedersen explores the benefits antioxidants have on a person's aging process. Watch Now.

If you would like more information: email, call/678.777.7417, or visit my website ).

"The amount of antioxidants that you maintain in your body is directly proportional to how long and healthy you will live."
~(Dr. Richard Cutler, while director of the Anti-Aging Research

Distracted Drivers

If you think distracted drivers are potentially dangerous, you're right! What's really scary is how many drivers are multitasking out there on the road. According to a recent survey from the industry group Network of Employers for traffic Safety:

10 percent have applied makeup while driving
32 percent of drivers admit to having read while driving
39 percent have tended to children while driving
51 percent say they use a cell phone while driving
70 percent admit to eating while driving

The lesson should be clear: be careful out there, scan way ahead, keep your speed appropriate for conditions and be ready to take evasive action. Remember, while you are driving your four wheel vehicle, DON'T do any of the above!!!!!! I might be out there in the traffic mix on my motorcycle!!
