Greetings, Fellow Motorcyclists!

My how time flies! The last update we were discussing the how hot it was. Now... It is really starting to cool off and very nice! As I type this, a lone hummingbird is sitting on the feeder (out of the rain) and occasionally sipping prepared nectar. On one of the flatbed feeders along the tree line are several migrating Rose-breasted Grosbeaks. All are fattening up for the long migration South!! How fortunate we are to have these visitors during this time of year.

True Grits Fun Run

It's about time again for the 30th Annual 50cc True Grits Fun Run held in Suches, GA October 27 at 1:30. If you have never been--it is a *must*! These tiny motorcycles require more skill to ride than you would expect. And you deserve an "Iron Butt" award for riding the 60-100 mile loop. Come join the FUN!

And speaking of 50cc, Ken and I are going to share the love of our 1990 Honda NS50s this year. Both are in excellent condition, run great, and are tons of fun. But we need to make a bit more room in the garage... His is Porsche black with a lot of custom work. Mine is the stock cyan and magenta--you may remember it--I have the plumeria flowers on mine. Beautiful! But don't panic--they are vinyl decals and will remove easily ;-)...

Call or email if interested...

JoAnna's Honda NC700

Fun Money

One reason we are trying to find new homes for the NS50s—to make room for the Honda NC700 that "followed me home" today :-). I had been looking for something to replace my BMW F650GS and just couldn't resist this one after reading all the rave reviews.

And, the *best* part of this motorcycle? It was 100% paid for by my Mary Kay and Healthy Chocolate money. It's great to have that "little extra" FUN money when you need it!

Would you like any extra FUN money???? Call me.

TIPS to remember while riding this fall

Check tire pressure. Remember, with colder temperatures, tire pressure drops and may take longer to warm up with the onset of colder weather. Maintain appropriate speed--especially when just starting on your ride for the day or after an extended stop!!

Carry your cell phone with you and make sure it has a full charge :-).

ALWAYS bring your First Aid Kit. Do you know what is in the kit? Check it. You should also be taking a first aid/CPR course on an annual basis. You know the saying--you never need it if you have it!

Slip in some snacks and a bottle of water into your tail pack/tank bag. Always nice to have it during your regular stops--and definitely for those unexpected extended stops.

When riding your motorcycle, use the very best earplugs you can get!! Some time ago, I was with another motorcyclist who was not wearing earplugs. I had extra foam plugs and offered them to him to use. He waved me off with a "you get used to it." A friend overheard this brief conversation and remarked by saying that "yes, you do. By going deaf." So, protect your hearing while you still have it!!!!!!!!!!

Purpose of a Pistol

"A pistol is essentially a weapon. It is not a toy, a conversation piece, an ornament, a badge of office or a remote-control paper punch, though it is often employed a such. It is a weapon of astonishing efficiency and versatility when skillfully used. But it's skillful use is rare." Jeff Cooper. March 1963.

Twisty Sisters Rally

Ladies (and Gentlemen), our 12th Annual Twisty Sisters Rally in August at the Iron Horse Motorcycle Campground ( was a huge success. The 3-D's (Diane, Dianne, and Diane) did a wonderful job organizing and the Iron Horse was an excellent choice. I'm already looking forward to next year!

If you would like to know more about this "relaxed" motorcycle group, go to Twisty Sisters. And don't forget to sign-up to be on the email list. There is not a lot of chatter, but that is mostly how we communicate.

Instinctive Skills

I always seriously consider the use of the word "instinctive" when a motorcyclist says that he reacted Instinctively to a given situation. Instincts are what we are born with, and they cannot be taught, nor do they need to be. We do not need to be taught to breathe, to drink when we are thirsty, nor to come in out of the cold. We can, of course, train our muscles and nerves into certain patterns which are generally referred to as "reflexive." Thus it is mildly annoying when a motorcyclist says that he accomplished an instinctive swerve to avoid a hazard. This is generally a trained reflex and the more training and practice over time results in more consistent responses as the need arises. Get training and practice, practice and practice some more!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Adults should, but do not always, know enough to get instruction before using any tool that can do harm. This includes motorcycles, power tools (drill, lawn mowers, chain saws), and firearms, for example. Unfamiliarity can result in grievous bodily injury. Once trained, anything untoward that happens can be a result of negligence. As most of you know, I don't believe in "accidents" and rarely use the word in my conversations!!!!!!!!!!

HOT Lanes

The Georgia State Road and Tollway Authority is converting their familiar HOV LANES INTO HOT LANES ON SOME INTERSTATES BEGINNING WITH I-85. HOT lanes require a toll for their use; motorcycles, however, will be exempt from the tolls (motorcycles are still not exempt from GA 400 toll lanes). Motorcyclists can set up an exempt-vehicle account and get a peach pass by calling (855) 724-7277; those who plan on using HOT lanes and GA 400 toll lanes must set up an account with at least a $20 deposit. Xocai: Healthy Chocolate Update

Did you know that you (as a person) do not age?! Only your cells do. Over time, our cells do not regenerate as quickly as they did before. In addition, variables such as free radicals, cancer, and a host of other conditions can reduce the body's ability to heal itself. Anti-oxidants are the best means of fighting the oxidative stress caused by free radicals. And guess what food has the *most* antioxidants? UNPROCESSED COCOA! Xocai Healthy Chocolate is processed in such a manner it retains all of nature's healing power and tastes good!

If you would like more information: email, call/678.777.7417, or visit my website

"The amount of antioxidants that you maintain in your body is directly proportional to how long and healthy you will live."
~(Dr. Richard Cutler, while director of the Anti-Aging Research

Peace Officers

"Police were once called "peace officers." One who keeps the peace, and defuses tense situations through social skills and their authoritative presence. Now they are "law enforcement officers." Enforcers. One who enforces compliance and obedience through the application and escalation of physical force. See the difference?"

"Lock, stock, and barrel" refers to the three parts of a musket-the firing mechanism, the butt, and the compartment for storing monkeys.
